Even after our mild winter, the cold and dry air did a number on my skin. Also, (I know-I know) I shouldn’t do this but in the winter I live for a HOT BATH every evening.  With my back problems there is nothing that feels better at the end of the day!!  After a few months of this my skin was dry and uncomfortably itchy!  I had tried so many lotions and cream but I still would end up itching in the middle of the night or sometime during the day.

Then, one day on The Dr. Oz Show they were talking about just this issue and they had a dermatologist suggest the NEW Eucerin CALMING SKIN products.  Now I knew it was a semi-commercial but what she said made a lot of sense.  She recommended using the CALMING BODY WASH DAILY SHOWER OIL followed by their CALMING CREME DAILY MOISTURIZER.  She explained that the CALMING BODY WASH preped your skin for moisture and even added a little moisture to it while following right after with the CALMING CREME locked in your skin’s moisture and relieved the itchiness and tight feeling with Colloidal Oatmeal plus a lot of other good skin ingredients.  For extra itch relief they also have a treatment product that is available if needed (I didn’t try it).

WELL that was enough for me to go right out and get the DYNAMIC DUO!  I found the CALMING CREME at our Walmart but only found the CALMING BODY WASH at our CVS.  I couldn’t wait to try them!  Right away you can see the BODY WASH is very different then your regular body wash.  It is really an “oil” but it has an emulsifier in it that allows it to mix with the water and it also has some type of foaming agent that actually makes it lather up a little.  So far so good!  It felt great to use and the more I used the more my bath water seems to turn into a silky soft soaking fluid.  It is non-scented which is also a plus as there isn’t fragrance to irritate your skin further and also makes it suitable for men or women.  Next after “carefully” exiting the tub (beware-the oil does make it slippery) I patted dry as the Doctor suggested and then lavished my skin with the CREME.  So far, so good!  The CREME is thick but not too thick and surprisingly not terribly greasy!  To tell the truth not only did my skin feel soothed but it also was heavenly SOFT to the touch after just my first use!  I mean like Baby Butt soft!  It’s been about a month now and my skin is completely healed-comfortable, itch-free and and oh so SOFT!

The only negative has been the bottle for the CALMING BODY WASH. It is not the best for a tub or shower as it is a little thin and tall making it a little tipsy.  I fixed that by pouring it into a Deko Lotion Dispenser and not only is that more stable in the tub-it also has a pump-so the oil is much easier to apply than from the original bottle.  I just can’t believe how soft my skin feels to the touch as well as how much better it feels in general now!   I think in the warmer months I will be able to just use the CALMING BODY WASH and save the CALMING CREME for just any problem spots.  I loved them so much that I also bought a product from their PLUS line-the INTENSIVE REPAIR HAND CREME, that has alpha-hydroxy acid in it and which I love also!

I hope this helps those of you out there with dry skin.  I know this sounds like an ad-but honestly-I don’t have any affiliation with Eucerin, but loved the duo soooo much I had to share it with you too!

The first thing that came to mind when I saw this bathroom was SPRING!! The colors are so sunny and bright and the mixture of the color with white is just sooo FRESH!! No wonder I found this photo in the most popular section of Pinterest.  I also LOVE LOVE LOVE the modern look that the GLASS TILES give to the room.  They make it look so light and airy-almost translucent in feeling-a nice softer look with the more severe lines of the modern sinks.  I hope you love it as much as I did!

Have you been on PINTEREST yet?  If so you have seen the many many cleaning tips, potions, posts and miracle products posted there.  I ran across a blog post on bathroom cleaning like a pro (from One Good Thing) and how much she was impressed by the Microfiber Towels. Not only was the article very good – but the comments had so many cleaning tips and strategies that I had to test a few for myself.  Now I LOVE LOVE LOVE my bathroom and love love love to my nightly soaks in the tub but the flip side is I hate hate hate cleaning the bathroom.  And to make it worse I have FIVE bathrooms with EIGHT sinks in my house, TWO boys and ONE Husband…  so cleaning my bathrooms is a real chore to do!

First time I tried the “Paper Towel” method.  I am not thrilled with washing cleaning rags and in the toilet area I prefer to throw my cleaning wipes away so I thought Paper Towels might be the answer for me.  The complete routine described (see below) called for FOUR Paper Towels for your entire bathroom.  Now I don’t know what kind of bathroom she had – but for my MBR I have two sinks, a whirlpool tub, a shower and a “water closet” (separate toilet area).  I used four Paper Towels just cleaning my sinks and mirrors and for the complete bathroom I ended up using almost TEN Paper Towels! Now, to to be fair my DH does not but the best quality Paper Towels and I think that made a big difference. I had quite a problem with lint – especially on the mirrors and it took a lot work to get it off.  Total cleaning time for my MBR – 20 minutes (not bad)

Well, I still wanted to try the Microfiber Towels (MFT) so off to WalMart I went.   As stated in the blog they have some in the automotive section and sure enough – they were there in the car wash aisle.  I bought one Neon Color pack of 15 for about $10 and a small Neon Green Pack of two glass towels for about $2.50.  They also had them in white and baby blue – but I thought the color coded system they described sounded like a good idea.

Two weeks later my bath was in need of cleaning again so out came the MCT. The instructions called for FOUR MFT so I used three of the car towels – one in each color and one glass towel (about a washcloth size).   The towels wiped, shined and buffed my bath to a HIGH GLOSS I had not seen in years!  It was a breeze to clean the mirrors, shine the sinks and polish all the faucets!

My tub just glistened in the sun - just like it was new (it is over ten years old).  I was very impressed to say the least and although the time it took was about the same (20 min)  I did spend more time shining everything just because the MFT worked soooo well!  As you can see below – my makeup mirror – which is brushed nickle and scratches and shows lint easily – buffed out to a pure shine!

A CLEAR WINNER ANY DAY IN MY BOOK!!!! Just one more look at the shine from the MFT–

When I saw the colors in this bright and sunny bathroom I knew it would be a perfect pick-me-up bath for the dreary days of February.  I have always loved the color pairing of blue and white and I really adore how they used the lighter blue with the cream and absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE the sunny window and natural light in the room.  What a refreshing decor and a reminder that spring is just around the corner (I hope).  I hope this room lifts your winter spirits as much as it did mine!

This week I picked a bath that was a polar opposite to last week.  Last week the bath inspiration was clean, modern and sleek  while this bathroom’s charm is from the rustic, warm and rugged look found in a modern log home.  The earth tone colors, rugged wall finishes and dark fixtures all combine for a warm but rugged, rough but appealing bathroom decor!  The lack of color is compensated by the use of high contrast and high texture elements that all combine into a rustic style that is anything but boring!  Although this decor is perfect for any rustic setting the same elements can be used just a beautifully in a urban home with neutral colors.  I hope you enjoy this weeks Bath Inspiration as much as I do!

Steps

1. Wash the towel in hot water before using it. Some people run their towels through twice (without drying). This will remove extra dye and any coatings (e.g. fabric softener) left from the manufacturing process. Don’t wash anything else with them because colored towels might bleed.
2. Add a cup of white vinegar to the rinse cycle. Dilute it first or wait until the water level is high enough to dilute it instantly, or else it might discolor your towels. The second wash cycle can include 1/2 cup of baking soda, but don’t use baking soda and vinegar in the same rinse.
   • Note that these are time-proven folk remedies. When the vinegar (an acid) or the baking soda (an alkaline or base) dissociate (chemically come apart) the atoms are free to recombine with the minerals, salts and other chemicals that have accumulated in forms that more readily rinse away.
3. Avoid using fabric softener of any kind. Fabric softeners coat the surface of fabric with a thin layer of chemicals that makes the fibers hydrophobic. If you can’t stand how towels feel without fabric softener, use amido amine softeners if available.[1]

Tips

• You can hang towels outside on a clothesline to help them smell fresh and be more absorbent. They will also hold their fold better. Line drying is also greener and cheaper. However, line dried towels may be rougher than those dried in a dryer. You can soften them after line drying by tumbling them in a dryer for 3-5 minutes.
• Put two rubber dryer balls (old tennis balls work too – just make sure they’re clean!) in the machine with the towels when drying them. This will help to fluff up the towels and they will then be more absorbent.
• This is a relatively slow process. It can take a couple months or more of washings for any fabric softener layers to completely break down and bring the towel to its full absorbing potential.
• Baking soda will get your towels cleaner and whiter; vinegar will get rid of smells and stains. Both are great for washing cloth diapers.
• White vinegar is a GREAT fabric softner. Works for the static of most fabrics and help make towels softer.

Warnings

• Don’t use vinegar and baking soda in the same rinse!
